Ocean County Beaches

Point Pleasant Beach
The boardwalk at Point Pleasant Beach begins at the Manasquan Inlet, where you can watch the boats pass on their way to sea. From that point south, you'll find one of the most popular family destinations along the Jersey Shore. The boardwalk stretches for one mile with family amusements, rides, games of chance, arcades, food, a Victorian-style ice cream parlor, and a fun house. A pavilion offers dining with an ocean view and shark-watching is a favorite past time at Jenkinson's Aquarium. Charter and party-boat fishing are available along Channel Drive. Beach fee. (732) 899-2424.

Bay Head
Bay Head is among the prettiest seaside villages along the Jersey Shore. It features boutique and antique shopping and beautiful beaches with spectacular shake-shingled homes tucked just behind the dunes. Charming bed-and-breakfast inns are within walking distance to the beach. Summer cottage rentals also are available. Beach fee. (732) 892-0636.

Seaside Park
Seaside Park offers a 11/2-mile-long boardwalk, whose northern tip bustles with the activity of Fun Town Pier, restaurants, arcades, and shops. More than a mile of boardwalk offers unobstructed views of the Atlantic Ocean with only an occasional gazebo along the way. Here, families find the wide beach and quieter lifestyle to be more ideal for week-long or summer-long vacations. Beach fee. (732) 793-0234.

Mantoloking
Some of the most magnificent estate-like homes along the Jersey Shore are located in Mantoloking, just south of Bay Head on Route 35. Turn west on Herbert Street and cross over the bridge for a scenic drive through the quiet communities along the Metedeconk River. (732) 899-6600.

Brick
Brick beaches are known as Beaches I, II, and III off Rt. 35 in South Mantoloking. These summer communities have been family favorites for decades and feature dozens of activities for every age and every generation. Along the northbound side of Route 35, there are a number of small shops and lots of places to grab a quick lunch or meal. Miniature golf, playgrounds, and tennis courts can be found in the "middle" blocks here, between the ocean and bay sides of this stretch of the Barnegat Peninsula. (732) 262-1075.

Normandy Beach, Chadwick Beach,
and Ocean Beach (Dover Township)

The many well-maintained homes on both the ocean and bay sides of Route 35 attest to why Dover Township's Normandy Beach is such a highly desired community for summer rentals. Nearby Chadwick Beach is another cozy bungalow community that you're sure to love. Much like nearby Lavallette (and some other communities to the south), the surf is particularly wonderful at low tide when a sand bar offshore forces waves to break earlier-making for great body surfing for young and old alike. Bay-side crabbing and swimming are popular activities, and sunsets can
be spectacular. Beach fee. For more information, call (732) 341-1000. Ext. 8415.
